Project Hannah, which takes its name from the biblical woman, Hannah (1 Sam. 1:1-28), was founded in 1997 by Awareness Advocate Marli Spieker. Marli and her husband, Edmund, were Trans World Radio missionaries in Asia when God impressed upon her the many women who are trapped in spiritual, cultural, and physical bondage.

Heart to Heart

April 2003 - Praying Justice Like a River
Envision a wave of prayer in more than 80 countries, set in motion by thousands of intercessors lifting up suffering women before God's throne. In many languages this mighty wave circles the globe uninterrupted 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These intercessors know that "prayer is the work; ministry is reaping the results."

The plight of women worldwide is proof of Satan's schemes of destruction. Project Hannah (PH) recognizes the spiritual dimension of this universal malady and continues to seek justice through informed and concentrated corporate prayer.

Gary Haugen, president of International Justice Mission wrote, "We recognize from Scripture how utterly dependent we are on God's intervention in order to pursue biblical justice. And we are confident in the power of righteous intercession because ‘we know that He hears us–whatever we ask.' (1 John 5:15)."

Haugen continued, "We serve a God who cares deeply about the injustice and abuse in this world: He wants to see ‘justice roll like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream.' Justice is central to the nature of our God, and He has chosen to allow His people to be His voice for justice on earth."

God's Word says, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy" (Prov. 31:8-9).

Countless women are being held as sex slaves; dehumanized and traumatized by a hopeless life of horrors. I don't know about you, but this sends chills down my spine! Everything within me calls for action. I know, however, that to stand against this great evil, we need a greater power–God's power, which is released by our prayers. Fervent, earnest prayer changes things! It can change laws, social structures, governments, and the most wicked heart!

The World Health Organization estimates that about 130 million girls and women in 28 countries undergo some form of female genital mutilation (FGM). However, some 14 countries in Africa have now banned FGM. Let's continue to travail on our knees until this atrocity is wiped from the face of the earth forever!

Chinese officials are beginning to acknowledge that the "one-child policy" has caused enormous problems with "dire consequences for the future," particularly causing a disturbing gender imbalance. After 23 years, laws are being written to protect unborn baby girls!

Moreover, PH's prayer wave affects us! As we deal with these wounded hearts, their tears of despair, pain, and loneliness, God fills us with His compassion, His vision, and His perspective. He changes us. We are greatly enriched and blessed to see God bringing beauty out of ashes, restoring women's dignity. He is giving them the ability to face life's trials with new faith and hope.

I invite you to join us in prayer to storm the gates of hell with a great movement of God's deliverance, justice, and hope for these women without love, without hope, and without Jesus.
